First of all, I would like to inform those who didn't know that Chinese New Year happened to land on Valentine's Day this year. So to celebrate, Saturday night we had about 15-20 people over for a party to celebrate the New Year. We watched Fruits Basket which is an anime about members of a family that have a curse put on them where they turn into the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac, plus the Cat. One theme in that anime is rice balls, so that was another part of our festivities. Our friend Sarah brought over rice and chicken and showed us how to make the rice balls. I have never had them so I was a little skeptical at first, but knowing the ingredients, I realized that it would probably be pretty good. I loved them! and so did everyone else at the party! It was crowded in our little apartment, but I think everyone had a great time and enjoyed the good food.
The next day was the actual day of the holidays, but we figured we would focus on Valentine's because we had such a huge party last night. Our festivities were started by me handing Lee a letter filled love. After he finished reading it, I handed him this!
I hadn't been sure what to get him, but then I thought about these. I know how much Lee likes them and I know that I don't like them. Thus it was a good idea because I wouldn't eat his present!After that, it was Lee's turn to present to me what he had gotten. He started with these beautiful flowers!
After that, he pulled out a bottle of Cranberry Apple Martinellli, followed by a tub of chocolate for dipping the strawberries and grapes that he pulled out next. I was so excited and happy that he knew me so well! On top of that, he also made me french toast which I had mentioned the night before. He did such a good job and I love him so much!After a little while later, it was time for dinner over at my parent's house. It was so cute and so nicely decorated! They had confetti hearts on the table as well as scattered heart candies. For each place mat they had a paper with people's names so we'd know where to sit, but they were also for writing notes to each other. I loved reading what everyone else had written to me and it helped me feel even more loved!
The dinner served was also wonderful! She had meatloaf with ketchup in a heart shape, pink mashed potatoes shaped into a heart, a heart-shaped roll, and asparagus. It was so delicious and I'm a little sad I was so full from french toast earlier.
After eating it was time for a game! It's called Dance Family Fun Game, and the rules are a little hard to explain, but I'll try for those who don't know what it is. First off, everyone takes some scraps of paper and writes anything on them. It can be a sentence, an inside joke, anything that is able to be explained by the person who pulls it out of the bowl. After everyone is finished writing, then the real fun begins. There are three rounds to the game. In the first round you can say and do anything as long as you don't say the words on the paper, kind of like Catch Phrase. After going through all the papers in that manner, then comes the second round. In the second round you are only allowed to say three words to help your team guess the word on the paper. After going through all the words again, you go into the third round, which is charades. You can act out the word, but you aren't allowed to say anything. It's a fun game and may seem hard, but it is kind of easy because after the first round you know what all the words will be for the next two rounds.
Finally it was time to go home and get some rest before our fun the next day. For Christmas my brother Jon had gotten me a gift certificate to Sushi Ya, our sushi place. We hadn't found a good time to use it yet, so I decided that we would use it during the Monday holiday as a continuation of our Valentine's celebration. So for lunch Monday, we headed to Sushi Ya for all-you-can-eat sushi. It was so good! I spent the rest of the day pretty full from then.
