Terra's First Haircut

I finally did it! After years I finally cut Terra's hair for the first time. I've never done girl hair before so I looked up some tutorials before trying. It doesn't look much different but she needed her ends trimmed.

First Broken Bone (WARNING: graphic images)

WARNING: This post has some graphic images. I know it's hard to look at, but I wanted to preserve the memories of what happened. 



This is a family first I was hoping we wouldn't have to experience. It was May 27th (Memorial Day) and almost bedtime when Terra wanted to play outside. I let her, even though I normally wouldn't. At some point she climbed on the small table on the front porch and it fell over and she hit the concrete. I was in the garage so I went to check on her because I heard the table fall. As soon as I saw her wrist I knew it was broken. I quickly handed Emmett to Lee (I had been holding him) and loaded Terra in the car. While driving to the hospital I realized I probably should have gotten her ice or medicine but I had been so panicked and just wanted to get her to a doctor ASAP.

 

 

 

 The doctors and nurses were so nice and tried to keep Terra comfortable. She even got a new stuffed dog! Then they gave her medicine and got some xrays. As I thought her arm was broken. She had completely snapped both the ulna and radius. They gave Terra some anesthesia and the orthopedic doctor tried to move her bones back where they needed to be. She couldn't get both completely back in place so Terra needed surgery.  I set up the appointment and Grammy came to watch the other kids so Lee and I could both be with Terra. She brought her dog from the ER for comfort and was really brave.

 

  The staff for the surgery gave her another stuffy, this time a zebra pillow pet. Everything went well with the surgery and Terra now had 3 pins in her arm. Her dog even got a pink wrap to match Terra.

 

 

 The pins stayed in for 4 weeks. Once the 4 weeks were over they pulled out the pins and gave her a waterproof cast for the last 2 weeks.

 

 When the finally cast came off Terra was still and little timid with her arm so they gave her a brace that she could take on and off as needed.

I'm hoping to never have to go through this again and I'm so grateful for our insurance during this.

4th of July Utah Trip

For the 4th of July we went to visit Lee's parents in Utah. It's always nice to spend time with family.

Emmett was done with the car by the last hour of the trip. We tried to keep him happy with some peanut butter m&ms but clearly we just made a mess.

 The kids love to explore their beautiful garden. Grandpa helped the girls pick flowers and Lilly's flower was the size of her head!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 Grandpa has some fun toys and kids enjoyed going for rides. I went on a few rides myself!

 The night of Independence Day we had some fireworks to set off in their driveway. I brought glowsticks for the kids and Grandma gave them foam light-up swords.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 Terra had gotten her waterproof cast the day before we drove here. They said to wait 2 days before getting it wet. When the time was up we had a "water party" to celebrate.

 Any Utah trip wouldn't be complete without Lee and I meeting up with friends for sushi in Orem. This year we brought the kids with us and they loved it! Each kid tried a piece of sushi, but mostly they ate low mein and fried rice.

 

I love visiting Utah and I hope we keep it up each year!
