It started Thursday the 20th at 3:30am. I woke up with contractions consistently 5 minutes apart. I wasn't sure at first so I waited 30 min before waking up Lee and calling my mom. Then I spent the next hour making sure I had everything I needed in my hospital bag and everything was ready at the house. Then we called up the Relief Society president to come sit at the house while my mom finished driving here. Off to the hospital we went!
When we got to MCR they got us set up in a small room to observe me and see if I was truly in labor. I was dilated to a 2 and still contracting so they had me walk laps around the halls for 2 hours then checked me again. Still only a 2. They concluded that I was in labor, but not active labor, so they sent us home. The contractions continued for the entire day, so around 11:00 on Friday we went into my doctor to see if anything had changed. I was still a 2, but my doctor pulled some strings and got us set up for induction at PVH.
We made sure to tell the nurses that I have trouble when getting my IV and I'm glad we did. It was 1:10pm when I full out fainted. Apparently I did fine getting the needle in and blood drawn, but when they pushed in the saline to flush the IV is when I vagaled. They rushed to get me oxygen and get a read of baby's heartbeat. They weren't having much luck hearing Emmett's heartbeat so they broke my water and put an electrode directly on his head. Once they could confirm he was okay and his oxygen was improving then I was able to rest. The nurse told me after that that was the worst vagal episode she had ever seen and that we were lucky the doctor was patient. If we hadn't warned them ahead of time about my vagaling I probably would have been rushed off for a C-section.
With my water broken I thought things would progress quicker, but they didn't. I had plenty of time to get all the antibiotics in that were needed and at 6:30pm I was dilated to a 3 and they started the pitocin. By 10:05 I was dilated to 4 then at midnight to a 5. At 1:19am I was dilated to an 8 and had had a few doses of fentinil to help me rest between contractions. At 2:21am Emmett was born and came out so fast the doctor almost didn't catch him. He was 7lbs 15oz and 19.25in.
Already caught a smile on camera!
