Nan Desu Kan 2012

Our little family went to a convention last weekend and it was so much fun! I didn't get my costume finished in time and Lee decided he wanted to try going without a costume, so we just wore geeky t-shirts while Ty dressed up. We drove up Friday and went straight to the check in line to get our badges. Unfortunately the A-G line was ridiculously long compared to the others, so we had to wait a while. Luckily they did eventually reorder the lines to make them shorter. Ty was in his 11th Doctor costume and I loved hearing everyone talk about how cute he was.

 

  We even had a few people ask for his picture. After taking pictures of ourselves and others with awesome costumes and attending some fun panels, we were pretty tired and ready to head home for the night.

 I somehow convinced Lee to reserve a hotel this time and I'm so glad we did! Not having to worry about driving late while tired was wonderful. Ty fell asleep in the short 5 min car ride over so we got to spend some time alone. There was even a restaurant next door that had free room service for orders over $15and since it was an Asian restaurant we couldn't resist. It was nice to have a little date time in the hotel, even if Ty did wake up before the food even arrived.

The next day we had a nice breakfast provided by the hotel then headed back to the convention for more fun. Since we had gotten our badges the previous day we didn't need to stand in any line. We had Ty dressed in his Link costume and there were even more people wanting his picture. We even attended a photo shoot that was just people from the Legend of Zelda games.

 

 One panel we went to had a famous voice actor and she basically told us what voice auditions are like and had a few people go up and try auditioning for her. It was very interesting to see how people interpret characters differently and to see what the people at Funimation are looking for. I've never seriously thought about voice acting, but I thought it'd be fun to try. My nerves got the better of me though, so I wasn't one of the people who volunteered.

Towards the end of the day we had Ty in the costume contest. The synchronized "awwww" from the crowd when Ty stepped out was amazing.

 For the kids category they didn't pick winners, but every kid got a prize. Ty got a cute Digimon plushie and a little bag. He knew they were his and didn't let go of them until later when he fell asleep at home.

I love going to conventions and spending time with people who have my same interests. The amazing details on some of the costumes blow me away and I love getting inspired for my next costume. I was so tempted this year to go on Sunday as well, but I'm glad we didn't. Post-con is always exhausting and our whole family got sick. We pretty much over it now and I'm already trying to figure out what to do next to finish my costume in time for Halloween.
